Spouse Meshach Hembree 73969996 Martha divorced Meshack, on Aug. 1, 1873. The divorce by Martha stated that Meshack had committed adultery with "Rilla" (Ibey) Smith. Martha's maiden name was Carroll, which she was to reassume after the divorce. The court took Meshack's land and conveyed it to Martha as a life interest. As a result of this divorce, Meshack left three minor children when he died with no means of support. their mother had died in 1884. Meshack's son, William Alexander was appointed as their guardian and he applied for a pension to support Meshack's children on Sept. 22, 1890. The children were, Mary Jane b. July 15, 1874; Kissie b. Nov 18, 1876; & James Martin b. May 7, 1880. Martha was 66 years 7 months and 6 days old when she died. She was buried on March 23, 1879, in the Hembree Cemetery, Smokey Creek, Scott County, Tennessee.
