Helen Maxine Owsley passed peacefully for this earthly world into her heavenly home on July 25, 2011. She was born March 10, 1916 to Lacey D. and Maudie M. (Schell) Armstrong at the family farm in rural McDonald County, Missouri. She graduated from Southwest Missouri Teachers College and Tulsa University, receiving her teaching degrees from both. She retired in 1980, after teaching for 43 years.
She was a long-time member of the Park Plaza Church of Christ, in Tulsa. She relocated to Edmond in 2005, after the passing of her husband, and became a member of the Edmond Church of Christ. She was active in the Tealridge Retirement Community where she had lived for almost 6 years.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, and her beloved husband of 59 years, Frank. She is survived by her son Larry and his wife Kay of Edmond, grandchildren Matthew and Lauren, also of Edmond, niece Sandra Davis and husband Ron, nephew Chris Davis and wife Stephanie and their daughter Alexis, along with many cousins and cherished friends.
Her kind and caring spirit will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Park Plaza (Owsley/Mansur/Mahaffey) Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Christian University or The Mission Fund at Edmond Church of Christ. Formal visitation will be held at the Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond on Wednesday evening from 5:30-8:30 p.m. A celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 29th, at the Moore's Southlawn Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
