His first wife was Dovy Jane Clark Roberts; she died in 1915.
His second wife was Delilah "Lila" Reed Roberts, to whom he was married June 25, 1916 in Buncombe County, NC, by Rev. W.T. Bradley.
He was known and "Uncle Jeff" in the Locust Grove community and a member of the church there.
Charter member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, February 7, 1891. He was also one of their two first deacons since he was already ordained as one from his previous church.
Survived by his wife, Lila; a son, O.M. Roberts of Weaverville; four daughters, Mrs. G.N. Chandler of West Asheville, Mrs. J.E. Chandler, Mrs. P.M. Buckner, and Mrs. B.L. Harron, all of Weaverville; 40 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services: Friday, December 18, 1936, Locust Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. D.K. Cohn and Rev. L.C. Roberts.
Burial: Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery
Pallbearers: Cecil Chandler, Leonard Chandler, Troy Buckner, Horace Arrowood, Gaston Harron, and Dennis Roberts, all grandsons of Mr. Roberts.
Granddaughters served as flower girls.
