James G. Martin was the youngest of Robert and Jennie Jane Adcock Martin's 8 children. Both of his parents were born in South Carolina. He came from a line of men who were always willing to defend their country. His father Robert Martin had served in the War of 1812 and his grandfather Leonard Adcock was a captain in the Revolution. When the call came to defend the South he and brothers Isaac and Isham all joined the Tennessee Infantry. He enlisted 18 May 1861 at Camp Harris, Tenn. Perhaps with his brother near, he along with several other soldiers died here of disease.
Bio as read at his funeral 2 Oct 2011.
