According to "The History of Tift County," by Ida Belle Williams published by J. W. Bure Co., C 1948, p. 267: she was the daughter of Sam and Emily Dennard Ayers and married John W. Poole on June 11, 1878. She was called "Granny Poole" and the "Sweetheart of American Legion Post 211 of Tifton," because she sold so many poppies in their sales campaigns. Her children were listed as Mrs. Nan Musselwhite, Mrs. W. W. Reynolds, Mrs. J. C Smith, Mrs. Fred Cody, Miss Ellie Poole and Ralph Poole who fought in World Wars I and II. She was a member of Tifton Baptist Church for 52 years and helped the underprivileged of Tifton.
