James is the ggg grandson of Sir Samuel Francies who fled with the Huguenots from France to Scotland to escape religious persecution. He was named for two people; the young Scottish Covenanter martyr born in 1662, James Renwick and for John C. Sloan, M.D., Findagrave memorial# 23379033. (It was often a custom for a baby surviving a difficult birth, to be named after the doctor.) James was known as "Ren" for most of his life, he was a blacksmith.
