Darrell Ray Smith was born in 1913 in Round Valley, Utah. He was the fifth of six children born to Arthur Andrew Smith and Alice Price Smith. When he was not yet 2 years old, his mother Alice gave birth to his younger brother Harold. When both Harold and his mother Alice died, he and his older siblings were sent to live with various members of the Price family. Darrell was sent to live with Alice's sister Mary Ann Price Stucki and her family in Paris, Idaho. Darrell died in Boise, Idaho in 1934 at the age of 21. He was buried in the Paris Cemetery in the Bear Lake Valley.
