DEE RITES TO BE AT CHURCH
Funeral OF Tim Dee Sr., 71, To Be Conducted on Monday Morning
The funeral of Tim Dee, Sr., 71, former Hartford City councilman and a widely known resident of this city, who died suddenly Thursday afternoon about 1:30 o'clock at the family home, 417 west Commercial street, will be conducted Monday morning at 9 o'clock, from the St. John's Catholic church, with the Rev. J. H. Moran officiating. Burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The body will be returned early Friday evening, to the residence from the Baxter & Markin funeral home, to lie in state until Monday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Dee were united in marriage on May 22, 1897, at St. John's Catholic church, in Hartford City. The Rev. Charles Dhe was the officiating rector. Mrs. Dee was the former Miss. Catherine McMichael , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah McMichael.
To Mr. and Mrs. Dee were born seven children, four of whom survive. They are James Dee, of Muncie; Tim Dee Jr., and Richard Dee, both of this city, and Mrs. Virgil Kegerreis, of Monroe, Mich. Deceased children were Tom and George Dee and Mrs. Mary Dee Townsend. Also surviving, other than the widow and four children, are eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and a brother, Thomas Dee, north Monroe street.
Mr. Dee was one of a family of six children, only one brother surviving. The deceased brother and three sisters are Garrett Dee, whose death occurred a year ago last April; Mrs. Henry Dujardin, Mrs. Mike Reidy and Mrs. Catherine O'Hern.
In his early life, Mr. Dee was an oil well driller and later became associated with the glass trade. Since 1929, he had been employed at the Overhead Door corporation's plant.
Mr. Dee was a member of the St. John's Catholic church and the Hartford City Lodge of Elks. He was interested in Democratic politics and served two terms as a member of the city council. Several years ago he was a member of the volunteer fire department here.
Mr. Dee was possessed of a pleasing personality and was highly esteemed by his host of friends. He was deeply interested in current events and in various sports being particularly interested in the high athletic events.
Mr. Dee's death was a shock to members of his family and many friends. His death occurred about 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, while seated in a chair in the living room of the home, shortly after the noon-day dinner.
After his dinner, Mr. Dee had gone to his favorite chair near the living room radio and had started to read a book. Mrs. Dee had passed him to go to another room, noting that he was absorbed in his reading. When she returned only a few minutes later, she found him with his head reclining back on the chair. Death had come quietly and quickly.
Mrs. Dee was almost overcome by shock and grief and was under the care of a physician Thursday afternoon and evening.
Mr. Dee had been confined to his home from injuries sustained about six weeks ago in a fall from a ladder while closing the door of a box car while at his work. He sustained torn ligaments in his legs and a sprained knee. He ate a normal meal, however, only a short time before his death, and appeared in normal health at that time.
Mr. and Mrs. Dee had celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on May 22nd, last.
Mr. Dee was born September 9, 1876 in Darke county, Ohio, a son of Thomas and Anna Stack Dee. He came to Hartford City 64 years ago. His parents were farmers (transcriber's note: this is the end of obit on xerox copy)
