Henry Nichols, Reverand, (son, Jonathan Nichols, 1665-1717, Vicar of Llambletheian, bu., Cowbridge, England), b. 1 Apr. 1678, Bedfordshire, Eng.; d. 12 Feb 1748, Talbot Co., Md.; m (1) Mrs. Elizabeth (.....) Rowle, a widow; d. befo 1748; both bu., St. Michael's Parish Church, Talbo Co., Md.; (by request of her husband in his will); m. (2) Dorthy....

Henry Nichols was the first residential missionary to Pennsylvania for the "Society for Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, " arriving in 1703. His churches were located at Chester, Concord, Radnor and Montgomery... Rev. Nichols requested a transfer in 1708 and became rector of St. Michael's Parish Church, Talbot, Co., Md. -post which he occupied until his death. For years, all records of his life were lost. Teh early church books disappeared! until June 1878 when workmen, employed in demolishing the old church building, found his tomb under the chancel in good preservation.

A record of his (Henry Nichols) will was obtained from The Hall of Records, Annapolis, Md. (Will Book 25, Pp. 513-516). In it, he named his wife Elizabeth Rowle, a widow, his sons; Henry, Charles, Jonathan, Jeremiah, James and his second wife Dorthy, and her son William and his sister Elizabeth for whom he generously provided.
