Obituary:
GASTONIA - Ruby Tankersley Hawkins, 89, passed away July 24, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Valley, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Harris Tankersley.
Ruby was a longtime member of Loray Baptist Church where she formerly worked as the church secretary. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and loved being around her family and friends.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Ray and Brenda Hawkins of Gastonia, sister, Evelyn Ussery and husband Jasper of Valley, Ala., grandsons, Jason Hawkins and wife Shannon, Brian Hawkins and wife Sarah, all of Boone, great-grandchildren, Bryson, Cole and Lauren Hawkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Hawkins and son, John Roger Hawkins.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Loray Baptist Church with Dr. Kent Cranford officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral in the sanctuary.
Burial will be in Langdale Cemetery, Langdale, Ala., on Thursday.
