Evelyn Willie Nowlin Perdue, 87, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard, Melvin and Earl Nowlin; and sister, Magdalene Armentrout.

Mrs. Perdue was a homemaker, a life long resident of Salem and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy on Apperson Drive for 55 years. The biggest part of her life in latter years was devoted to sitting with the elderly and providing loving care to others. Mrs. Perdue was a very selfless person, always putting others before herself and she provided years of service helping others. She will be missed greatly by all that knew her.

She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kimberly Dalton; wonderful friend and sister-in-law, Leona Nowlin; numerous nieces; nephews; great nieces; and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Pastor James Pentecost officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening July 26, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Charlie and Elaine and their daughter, Mary for all they have done for Mrs. Perdue over the years and a special thank you to nephew Mike Nowlin for all you have done for mom!
