He Suffered A Paralytic Stroke
Allen M. Harris Stricken With
Paralysis While Walking On Street.
In A Precarious Condition
His Whole Right Side Affected - Taken
Home By Joseph Gilbert.
-----------------------------------------------------
Allen M. Harris, who resides on North Thirteenth street, was out in the woods and fields yesterday, as is his custom when the weather is fine. He was returning home in the afternoon in company with Joseph Gilbert, when he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. Mr. Gilbert helped him home and he was able to walk into the house unaided. This was nearly five o'clock. He had not been in the house very long until he suffered another stroke, which completely affected his right side. A physician was called and every possible aid rendered. This morning Mr. Harris, owing to his advanced age, is in a precarious condition.

Another Aged Citizen Passed
Away On Sabbath As The
Angelus Bells Were Tolled.
Mr. Allen M. Harris A Pioneer Citizen
Of Wayne County And One Of The
Substantial Men Of This County.
-------------------------------------------------
The stroke of paralysis from which Allen M. Harris suffered last Friday terminated fatally yesterday about noon. He was surrounded at the time of his death by his entire family and brothers and sisters. Death came as gentle as a passing shadow and the life of one of Wayne county's pioneer citizens went out like the snuffing of a candle.
--------------------
Allen M. Harris, son of James and Naomi Harris, was born Nov. 9, 1828, in Wayne county, Indiana, where the greater part of this life was spent on the farm. He was an industrious youth and his time was occupied in making a future for himself, and all who knew him would vouch for the fact that he was successful.
He was married on May 14, 1850, to Rebecca Petty, daughter of Daniel Petty, of near Walnut Level. Their married life was a most happy one until Dec. 20, 1900, when Mrs. Harris died, since which time Mr. Harris has lived alone at the old homestead, 101 North Thirteen street, he having a housekeeper. Seven children were the result of their union as follows: S. J. Harris, near Richmond, L. L. Harris of Campbellstown, Ohio, Josephine Coffin, Spiceland, Cerelda Gray, Muncie, Olive McFail, Delphi, Ellen Benton, Chester, Fannie Land, city. Besides these the deceased leaves two brothers, B. L. Harris of Greensfork and Winston E. Harris of Williamsburg, and one sister, Mrs. Cerilda Thornburg of Dalton.
In early life Mr. Harris joined the United Brethren church and has been a member ever since. Mr. Harris has been a resident of this city for about twenty-three years.
Mr. Harris was a man of considerable wealth, was a director in the Union National bank, and a lifelong Republican.
The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock from the house 101 North Thirteen street. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 this evening and from 9 to 11 tomorrow morning. Interment will be in Earlham cemetery.
