Long time resident of Castle Hills, Mary Frances Ellis died July 19, 2011. Born April 21, 1910, she was 100+1 years old. She was born to Dr. Joseph Erwin Walker and May Bender walker in Earlsbera, Oklahoma where her father first practiced medicine. The family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma when she was a small child. She graduated from Oklahoma University in 1931. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Mrs. Ellis taught math and science at Shawnee Junior School for 5 years. She was married to Clay Donald Ellis in 1935. In 1941, the U. S. Air Force called him for duty. Life as an Air Force wife began. While her husband was stationed in Japan she became interested in Ikeliana, the art of Japanese flower arranging. She studied there and in the states. In Baltimore, Maryland, she was in the Girl Scouts of America as a troopleader. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clay D. Ellis; sister, Sue Denson and brother, Erwin Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Ross of San Antonio; Nimrod Denson of Opilako, AL and 3 nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 28, 2011 at 12:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
