Major League Baseball Player. Born in McSherrystown, Pennslyvainia, he was a left-handed pitcher making his debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on April 22, 1918. For fifteen seasons, he played with the St. Louis Cardinals (1918-30) and Boston Braves 1931-32). He ended his career with a record of 165 wins the most ever by a St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, 146 loss, 159 complete games, 11 shutouts, 26 saves, 839 strikeouts and a 3.72 earned run average. He died at age 72 in McSherrystown, Pennsylvainia.
