Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Jeff and Viola Alexander Cooper and the husband of Peggy Phillips Cooper.
He retired from the Pickens County Tax Assessors Office and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Survived by his wife of 54 years; six sisters and a brother; several nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Cooper, a brother, Lloyd "Buck" Cooper, and sister, Ophelia "Johnnie" Cooper.
Funeral services: Saturday, December 20, 2008, Liberty Mortuary Chapel.
Burial: Liberty Memorial Gardens.
