US Congressman. He served in the Union Army as Captain and commander of Company F, 13th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. He was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1871 and established a practice in Corydon, Indiana. He served in the Indiana State Senate and was elected to the United States Congress from Indiana, serving from 1881 to 1885. In 1887, he was the Assistant Commissioner of the General Land Office in Washington, D. C. He later resumed law practice in Washington, D.C.
