US Congressman. He served in the Union Army as a Lieutenant during the Civil War and was mustered out as a Captain. He was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1871, and established a practice in Corydon, Indiana. He served in the Indiana State Senate and was elected to the United States Congress from Indiana, serving from 1881 to 1885. He resumed the practice of law in Washington, D. C.
