Marcus Wainscott Haines, 83, died may 24 at the Veterans Hospital in Vancouver, WA. Services were May 29. He was born May 30, 1901 at Elkton.
At the age of 16, Haines enlisted in the US Army and within a few weeks was wounded and sent to a veterans hospital in San Francisco, CA. He was awarded a purple heart.
He married Candace Cole on February 1, 1921, and they made their home in Albany. She preceded him in death.
An active member of the VFW, Haines was a also a member of the Masons. He had worked as a foreman in a furniture plant.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Marcelle Pierce, Yakima, WA; and Adel May Portland; one sister, Inez Lasky, Kirkland, WA; one brother, Dexter Haines, Eugene; a half sister Agnes Castner, Crescent City, CA; one aunt, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
