Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League Baseball as a pitcher for fifteen seasons (1915 to 1917, 1919 to 1930) with the Buffalo Buffeds of the Federal League, the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Athletics. In the 1929 World Series against the Chicago Cubs, he helped Connie Mack's Athletics defeat the Cubs 4 games to 1. He started the first and last games of the contest, outdueling the Cubs' Charlie Root for the win in Game 1, and pitching 6 innings in Game 5. His career totals were 166 wins - 166 losses, 427 games pitched, 199 complete games, 14 saves, 1,030 strikeouts and a career 3.74 earned run average.
