C. J. Hanson died Sunday night, June 29, 1958, at Jamestown. He has been in failing health for the past few years.

Funeral services are being held today at 2:00 p.m. from the First Lutheran Church in Litchville.

Mr. Hanson was an early day businessman of Litchville, being in the implement business, located at that time just across the street east of The Bulletin office. He made his home here during nearly all of his lifetime, continuing in business here as long as he was able.

Mr. Hanson at one time served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from the 38th Legislative District (our district). He was active in both political and community life. He was one of the first early day truckers of livestock, hauling into West Fargo.

Back 25 or 30 years ago Mr. Hanson was badly hurt in an accident. He was standing in front of his vehicle, parked to the side of the road, when the vehicle was hit from behind. One of Mr. Hanson's legs was so badly hurt that he was told he would never walk again, but he was so determined to walk, that he put up a bar to hang on to and walked back and forth until he learned to walk again. Of course this injury always bothered him, but he kept going in spite of his handicap.

Born in Drammen, Norway, on June 18, 1870, Mr. Hanson came to the United States in 1879, settling in Litchfield, Minnesota where he lived for three years. The family moved to Fingal, where he lived for a few years prior to moving to a farm in Prairie Township south of Litchville. Besides being in the implement business in Litchville, he later was a car dealer in Marion, and then returned to Litchville.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Johnson (Maybelle), Jamestown; two sons: Warren Hanson, Mandan and Arthur Hanson, Portland, Oregon; one grandson, Donald Johnson, Louisville, KY.; three great grand children; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Peterson, Marion and Mrs. Peder Strinden, San Francisco, California.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Dina Olson, who died in 1909, and his second wife, Andrea Jacobson, whom he married in 1912 and who died in 1950.

Published in The Litchville Bulletin, Litchville, ND, July 1958.

Note by Dennis Olson:
Charlie rode his bicycle from old Griswold to Edgeley and back in 1898 to get serum to combat a diphtheria outbreak. Several people died from that outbreak including Martin Alvin Olson and Lily Sophia Olson, children of Lewis M. and Sigrid "Sarah" Olson.
