Mr. Ernest Monroe Carter, 93, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at his home. Mr. Carter was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Wilkes County to Kenis and Hallie Norman Carter. Mr. Carter retired from N.C. Department of Transportation. He was a WWII veteran and served in the 276th Armored Field Artillery "C" Battery. He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Bauguess Carter; brother, Harley Carter; sisters, Mary Collins and Vassie Luffman. Survivors include son, Stephen Carter and wife Jackie of Elkin; daughters, Karen Abee and husband Julius of Leicester, Lynne Phillips and husband Gary of Jonesville and Ellen Reeves and husband Jeff of Elkin; brother, K.M. Carter Jr. of Yadkinville; sisters, Evon Couch of Elkin, Millie Axel of Venice, Florida, Peggy Cornelius and husband Allen of Pilot Mountain; grandchildren, Brandon Abee and wife Jenny, Jeremy Carter, Sabrina Brown and husband Bobby, Jasmine Royall and husband Junior; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Reeves and the Rev. David Key officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin County VFW Post 10346.
