Ebenezer moved from Erie Co., Pennsylvania with his parents in 1843. During the war of the Rebellion, he enlisted in Co. F 17th Ill. Cav. where he served, becoming a 1st Lieut., until March 1865 when he was honorably discharged. On February 1860, he married L.S. Townsend. They had eight children:

Ebenezer was a farmer, owning 160 acres of land in Rush Township. He was on the County Board for two terms, served as Justice of the Peace and held the office of Collector & Assessor of Taxes.
