A native and life resident of Williamstown, he worked as an operating engineer for Local 545 Syracuse before retiring in 1987.
Mr. Britton served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife Anna; his mother, Roxie Britton of Williamstown, two sons, Francis Jr. of Williamstown and Charles of North Syracuse; five daughters, Maryann Bartlett of Paris, Christie Hare of Mechanicville, Janet Yoran of Potsdam, Peggy Scott of Williamstown, and Margaret Whipple of Syracuse; six brothers, Grover and Louis of Williamstown, Stewart of Florida, Charles of Missouri, Robert of Texas, and Jackie of Camden; five sisters, Jane Stevens and Phoebe Wheeler, both of Williamstown, Judy Campbell of Camden, Alice Eldred of Altman and Peggy Hickey of New Mexico; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sanborn-McDaniels & LaRobardiere Funeral Home. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown.
