Anthony went to live in the home of his half sister, Margery Bellangee, in Little Egg Harbor after his father's death; after their marriage they settled in Monmouth Co, NJ where he was listed as a freeholder in 1755; he and Lydia became Quakers at Little Egg Harbor in 1768; as residents of Stafford twp in Monmouth Co (now Ocean Co), they sold 2 farms in Monmouth Co; received from the Shrewsbury MM by the Little Egg Harbor Friends MM in Monmouth Co, NJ 11 Apr 1776; returned to the Shrewsbury MM in 1782; back to the Little Egg Harbor MM in 1788; removed to the Westland MM in Washington (now Green) Co, PA in 1795; purchased a 116 acre farm from James and Mary Hook for £309 there on the north side of Smith Fork of Tenmile Creek adjoining land he already owned; Will dated 3 Jun 1798 in Greene Co, PA, and probated 29 Jan 1810.∼Ten Mile Country and its Pioneer Families, p. 113: This family came from New Jersey in 1793, and were Quakers. Smith Bible lists Anthony Smith Sr. birth date as July 26, 1723, the son of Thomas and Mary Smith of Monmouth County. Anthony settled near Jefferson, Greene Co. Anthony Smith: Matthias Johnson and Rebeckah, his wife, John Johnson and Catherine, his wife, all of Middletown Twp, Monmouth County, To Anthony Smith, of same place, land in Middle., head branches of Comptons Creek...to bounds of Smith's old tract, of about 20 acres. The above listed deeds were the residences of Anthony and Lydia Smith which they sold before moving to Greene County, Pennsylvania. It is believed that three of the Smith sons fought in the Revolutionary War - against the beliefs of the Quaker Church. DAR records show that Anthony, Jr. (13-201); James (20-129) and Noah Smith (40-244) were listed as veterans of that war. Anthony and Lydia Smith lived on Smiths Fork of Ten Mile Creek in Morgan Township and paid 1800 taxes to Greene County. The Smith's Quaker Cemetery in Morgan Township is near their farm. Anthony Smith's will (137 in Book 1, page 83) is on file in Greene County, Pa. Buried according to Quaker tradition; their graves are not marked with headstones.
