Fern Jean Cocking, daughter of Charles Hubert Cocking and Grace E. Dodge, married Harry C. Dighton at her parents' home in Oneida, Delaware County, Iowa, on June 10, 1949. Harry was the son of Merle C. Dighton and Netta C. Cooper.

Fern and Harry had three children:

1) Charles Dighton;
2) Kenneth Dighton;
3) Nancy Dighton, who married Ronnie Bachman.

Obituary for Fern Jean (Cocking) Dighton:

Fern Jean Dighton, 73, of Manchester, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at her home after a battle with cancer. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the United Methodist Church in Greeley, with Rev. Jim Roth officiating. Burial of her cremains was held prior to the service at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.

Fern was born March 12, 1928 in Oneida Township, Delaware County, graduating from the Oneida High School. Fern worked in Manchester for four years.

On June 10, 1949, Fern was united in marriage to Harry C. Dighton at her parents' home. Three children were born to this union. Together they farmed south of Greeley over the years.

Fern was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook, and a very special person to many. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Harry, of Manchester; two sons, Charles (Carol) Dighton and Kenneth (Mary) Dighton, both of Manchester; one daughter, Nancy (Ronnie) Bachman of Manchester; five grandchildren; and one sister, Berneice (Clair) Carpenter of Manchester. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, William Glen Cocking.
