MASCOUTAH, Ill. - Services for Arthur Warren Purkel, 66, formerly of Blandville, Ky., will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bardwell Cemetery in Bardwell, Ky. with the Rev. William Causer officiating.

Mr. Purkel died at 9 p.m. Friday at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was a graduate of Blandville High School and University of Kentucky College of Law. He was also a member of St. John United Chuch of Christ in Mascoutah, the Kentucky Bar Association, Antioch Lodge No. 332 in La Center, and of the International Club, Washington, D.C.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1940-1948. He retired in 1980 as director of Contact Airlift D.C.S./Air Transportation, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., after serving 30 years of federal service. From that time until the present, he was senior director of contract programs for Flying Tigers in Los Angeles.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bodkin Purkel; a son, Arthur Warren Purkel Jr., of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a daughter, Andrea Nellson of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; a brother, Asa Purkel of Blandville; three sisters, Katherine Geiger of Knoxville, Tenn., Asaleen Patterson of Mineral Bluff, Ga., and Louise Ross of Paducah Rt. 6; and several nieces and nephews.
