Samuel Long was born Feb 27, 1801 in Newburg, Cumberland, OH to Samuel and Catherine (Piper) Long. He moved with his family to Wayne County and Knox County, OH, then to Lawrence Co, IL before settling in Lorain Co, OH. He was thought to be a blacksmith by trade and a farmer. He married Catherine Goodman Oct 29, 1822 in Cumberland Co, PA. They were the parent of 10 children, Sarah Jane Meyers, Samuel, William, Benjamin Franklin, Joseph, Catherine Ostrander, Simon, John, David Burton and Elizabeth Stark. He died Dec 31, 1882 in Huntington, Lorain Co, OH at the age of 81.
