Mrs. Jacob Gray.
The following clipping from the
Lyndonville Journal will be of
interest to people of Evansville,
Orleans and Barton.
Mrs. Elvira Gray, an active worker
in Peoples Methodist Episcopal
church, died February 18, at her
late residence on Main street.
Mrs. Gray was born at Sheffield on
March 10, 1846. Her parents were
members of the Baptist church, her
father holding the office of deacon.
In the year 1878 she and her husband
removed to Barton. While a resident
there she became deeply interested
in a call to start a Sunday
school in the town of Brownington.
The outcome of this self-sacrificing
task is the church now flourishing in
Evansville.
In 1903 they again took up their
residence in Sheffield, removing to
Lyndonville in 1913.
She was a woman with high ideals,
and a fine, keen sense of the good,
the true, and the beautiful, she was
loyal to Jesus Christ, and ambitious
for the work of His church.
She is survived by three daughters,
Mrs. Annie Randall of Sheffield,
Mrs A. L. Tripp of Bemis Hill, and Miss
Edith Gray of Lyndonville; six grand
children and two sisters.
The funeral service, held at her
late home Tuesday at 1 o'clock," was
conducted by her pastor, Rev. Wm. J.
McFarlane. Interment was at Sheffield.
