Tyler Elson Merritt, Sr, age 66, of Mansfield, died Friday afternoon January 26, 2001 at his residence on Hecht Rd. He was born January 5, 1935 in Millfield, Ohio, and had been a Mansfield area resident since 1956.

Prior to retiring in 1992 he was the owner of Diamond Kleen Company, a residential and commercial cleaning business in Mansfield. Mr. Merritt was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Rozella Stevens Merritt; seven children, Tyler E. Merritt, II and his wife, Cheryl, of Mansfield, Charles A. Merritt of Mansfield, Brian W. Merritt and his wife Regina of Mansfield, Mary Jo Puckett and her husband, Robert of Mansfield, James E. Merritt and his wife Michelle, of Bellville, Dale Rodney Merritt and his wife Victoria of Greenwich, Ohio, and Gary C. Merritt and his wife, Vanessa, of Mansfield; thirty two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Dale Merritt of Greenfield, Ohio; and three sisters, Madeline McCune of Shelby, Erma Lee Merritt of Columbus, and Audrey Bernhart of Shiloh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Tyler and Elsie Glaze Merritt; three brothers, James, Charles, and Carl Merritt; and two sisters, Kathleen Rumer and Wilma Olson.

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday January 28, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Jerry Mitchell of the Free Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Lantz Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Med Central Hospice.
