WILLIAM R. "BILL" SOREN
William R. "Bill" Soren, a lifelong resident of the Skagit Valley died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998 at Country Acre Adult Care Center in Sedro-Woolley. He was 97 years of age.
He was born on Nov 17, 1901 in Mukilteo, WA the son of Patrick R. and Charlotte LeRoy Soren. In early 1902 the family moved to the Hamilton area where Bill was raised and attended school.
During WWI Bill served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army. He attended the U of W taking mineralogy and geologist classes.
He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Wilson in 1924 and they made their home in Hamilton. Bill was primarily a miner by trade. He hiked and mined for various ores and minerals in the vast area of the Cascade Mountains for many years. He was also a farmer and with his family operated several businesses in the Hamilton community.
He was an avid pool player and until recently was actively playing. He was baptized in the Catholic Church, was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Sedro-Woolley and the Eagles Aerie 1242 in Burlington.
He is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, William & Ruth Soren of Snohomish; 3 daughters, Iva Ewing and Friend Don Van Elten, Elizabeth "Liz" Gibbs and husband Jack and Marilyn VanDerlinder and husband Chuck, all of Sedro-Woolley, special friend, Irene Marquart of Hamilton, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina in 1978, his parents, 1 brother, Dewey Soren, and an infant sister, Mary Soren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998 at 11 a.m. at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Interment will follow at Sedro Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials to Skagit Hospice are suggested.
