Obituary from the Adirondack Record-Elizabethtown Post, Feb. 11, 1971:

AU SABLE FORKS – Walter Loren Williams died unexpectedly in the Physicians Unit of the Medical Center at Plattsburgh at 3:22 a.m. on Jan. 30, 1971. He never was one to complain and he kept busy and active until about 2 weeks before his death.

He was born in Lake Placid on Sept. 1, 1894, the only son of Loren and Ella (Angers) Williams. When he was 12 years old, the family moved to a farm in North Jay.

On Feb. 13, 1915, he married Minnie Cadarr of Whitehall, N.Y. They bought a small farm near his parents, in North Jay, living there for 24 years. Those were the "good" years! Not plentiful in money but plentiful in love and laughter while their 5 children were growing up! He always seemed to find time to do things with and for his children. He taught them to swim, he built a pond so they wouldn't have to swim in the river. He had time for picnics, he had time to make a bobsled, he had time to teach his children to skate and drive a car, he was up in the night if one of the children were sick. No father could have loved his children more, many fond memories to cherish.

He was energetic and always busy. He had an aptitude for mechanics and carpenter work. He moved to his father's farm after his father retired and operated it for 9 years. In 1948 he sold the farm to Ralph Murcray and moved to Augar Lake, near Keeseville. He built camps and boats and he and his wife operated a tourist business for 18 years. IN 1966, they came to live in a small home on Green St., that he had built for their retirement.

He enjoyed all children, also animals and birds. He had tamed many birds and chipmunks to eat from his hand.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Minnie and four daughters, Dorothy Hansen, Beatrice Joy, Marion Smith, Edna Joy and one son, Arthur. Also, two sisters, Marslin Howard of Lakeland, Florida and Edith Williams of Jay, N.Y.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Marshall Watson at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Feb. 1st. Burial was in the North Jay Cemetery. Pall bearers were John Sheldrake, John Joy, Russell Clark, Frank Williams, James C. Smith and William Pulsifer.
