FAMOUS BANKER DEAD

St. Louis, Mo., Aug. 25 - Information is received here of the sudden death today of J. C. Van Blarcom of the National Bank of Commerce of St. Louis, and one of the best known financiers of the middle west, at his summer home in the Adirondacks, near Old Forge, N. Y. His death was caused by Bright's disease

Jacob C. Van Blarcom, president of the Commercial National bank of St. Louis, but formerly of this city, died on Tuesday from Bright's disease in his summer home in the Adirondack mountains, near Valley Forge, N. Y. He was sixty years old and leaves a widow and one son, Frederick.
Mr. Van Blarcom was born in this city in the year 1849. He was the son of Jacob Van Blarcom, of the Arm of Van Blarcom & Dickson, harness manufacturers of 67 Broadway, the business afterwards being continued by Jacob Merselis, then Brinkerhoff & Van Winkle, and later by former Sheriff William A. Hopson. Mr. Van Blarcom was the grandson of Brant Van Blarcom, who had large property interests on Broadway and Main street, and was Paterson's first mayor.
He received his education in the schools of this city and he afterwards attended Rutgers college in New Brunswick. N. J. In the early sixties he went West accompanied by his brother Dixon.
His connection with the bank was a long one and he was recognized as one of the leading financiers of the Middle West. He was a member of the New York club, the Union club, Adirondack club, Holland society and at one time he was associated with H. Clay Pierce In financial venture.
