Jacob Lutz entered his claim to 545 acres on Aug. 24, 1807, comprising Fractional Section 1, Township 5 South, Range 5 East in Posey Township, Harrison County, Indiana. His name appeared from Sept. 11 until Nov. 23, 1811 on the roll of Lieut. Thomas Berry's detachment of mounted riflemen in the Indiana Militia which marched from Fort Harrison toward Prophet's Town to quell the Indian Confederacy gathered there under Tecumseh's brother Tenskwatawa, a maneuver which culminated in the Battle of Tippecanoe on Nov. 7, 1811. He married Mary Magdalene Keller in Lincoln County, North Carolina on Aug. 31, 1812. A power of attorney dated on Sept. 10, 1816 from Jacob Lutz of Harrison County, Indiana was sent to his nephew, Jacob Lutz of Lincoln County, North Carolina, in order to obtain his share in his father's estate settlement.
