Waynesville, Bertha Jane Franklin, age 77, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maggie Gaddis Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Beasley and Betty Summey and her husband, Bill; and three brothers, George V. Smith and his wife, Maggie, Francis Smith and his wife, Estella; and Charlie Smith and his wife, Pauline.

Bertha, first and foremost, loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bertha enjoyed going to town on Monday's and eating with the family on Friday's at Duvall's. She also loved camping at Stonebridge. The family would like to say a special thank you to her nieces Debbie and Georgia Mae for their love and companionship. Also a thanks to Dennis Franklin for helping park her camper and Harold and Darrel Ross for everything they have done for Bertha over the years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Londo Franklin; a son, Billy James Franklin and his wife, Margaret "Lucy," of Waynesville; a daughter, Pat Price and her husband, Johnny, of Waynesville; one brother-in-law, William Beasley; five grandchildren, Tammy Franklin and her husband, Donald, John Price and his wife, Rachel, Connie Head and her husband, Gary, Travis Price and his Wife, Terri and Matthew Price and his wife, Jenifer and five great-grandchildren, Steven and Savannah Franklin, Haylie Price, Justin Head, Abbie Price and a new great-grand baby on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Gary Putnam officiating. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery. The family will receive from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be John, Matthew and Travis Price, Gary Head, Donald Franklin and T.J. Jenkins. Honorary pallbearer will be Bill Price.
