Poet, Inventor. He was an accomplished writer and poet, as well inventive pioneer in the fields of photography and sound recording. He invented the first processes of a recording sound device, but never constructed a practical model of it. What would become the phonograph was also being worked on at the time by American inventor Thomas Edison, who would go on to actually construct a working model and gain the credit for its invention.
