PHOENIX PARK POINTS - Samuel Carraher, of Dix, died at his home at 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning, the 29th, at the age of 72 years. He was an old citizen of Snyder township and leaves one daughter to mourn his taking away. He was a member of the Dunkard faith. The funeral will take place at the Cross Roads this Thursday morning at ten o'clock."

According to the same 1850 PA census, Daniel's son, Samuel is living near by in Huntingdon County, Warriorsmark Twp. in house 106, family 111, Samuel Caraher, is listed as 29, male, and a blacksmith; Nancy Caraher, is 35 and female; E.E. Caraher is 4 and female; and M.A. Caraher is 1 year old and also female. E.E. is Eve Eliza and M.A. is Margaret we know from the 1860 census found previously.
In the book "Echoes from Warriors Mark, PA and Surrounding Area" by Elizabeth Nearhoof published in 1968. On page 281 she writes: "In Spring Mount, nine smithies (blacksmithes)are know by name. Stuart Chronister believed the first was George Meise, whose name appears in the 1868 tax report. His occupation may have been listed in earlier years, because in 1859 and 1862 David Bratton 'had a shop in Spring Mount.' Others were: William Campbell, Daniel Caraher and son Samuel (1821 - 1890). The shops of David Bratton and the Caraher's were on the spot where the Cox Funeral Home now stands. This was part of the Spring Mount Foundry building (which belonged to Henry Bratton)."
