William married Esther Minerva Stewart in 1930; they had no children. He married Eva Irene Walker in 1939; they had 2 children. It should be noted we find earlier records of marriages to Eva, perhaps because his marriage to Esther was not perfectly dissolved.

Mr. Yates was the husband of Eva nee Walter and the father of Samuel and Elmo. He was killed late at night when his pickup truck hit a parked vehicle on Watt Avenue, the impact knocking the truck 88 feet where it overturned and caught fire, trapping William inside. Per his obituary, he was a member of DAV WWI, Veteran Barracks No. 216, and American Legion Post No. 447.
