Rhoda Decker Alexander was the daughter of John E. Decker (1814-1866) and his wife Mary Elizabeth Linton (1825-1911). She was born on the farm north of Palestine, Illinois on Lamotte Prairie in Crawford County. On 3 Sep 1867 on Lamotte Prairie she married Guy Smith Alexander, a Lieutenant Colonel Civil War Veteran. To them were born four children: John Caldwell, William Decker, Frank Linton, and Carrie Belle. Rhoda was left a widow with four young children at the age of 29; she never remarried. Children Frank and Carrie never married and always lived near Rhoda. All of her children preceded her in death and she died of acute influenza.
