Fascinating heritage of Ellis Fairbanks I.
Born 1771 Mass., died between 1838-1840 on his home place in section 18, T4S, R6W. Abandoned cemetery at this site.

1812 - from May 14 to December 12 - Ellis Fairbanks is appointed as the first Sheriff for the Gulf Coast from Mobile Bay to the Pearl River, named Mobile County in Mississippi Territory, which at that date included the future Counties of Jackson, Mobile and Hancock(excluding the City of Mobile). Appointments were made to educated men of means.

From the Fairbanks Family of America book:Ellis Fairbanks, born 1771, child no. 6 of Lt. Joshua Fairbanks (1727-1781) and Lydia Ellis of Douglas Mass.; grandson of Dr. Jonathan Fairbanks, (1689-1754) and Hannah Coolidge. This Ellis "went to sea and was never heard from again". I have helped the Fairbanks Family prove the Jackson County, Miss., Ellis is one and the same as the one who went to sea from Massachusetts.

1812 – Ellis Fairbanks (I) has a Land Claim in Section 15, Township 5, Section 6 in the new County of Jackson, Mississippi Territory. The section of land where Caswell Springs Methodist Church is located.

1822 – Ellis Fairbanks (I) married in the area of East Pascagoula, widow of Antoine Ely, Mrs. Sarah Cumbest Ely in Jackson Co., Miss. They were living on Ely Bayou, now known as McInnis Bayou.

1822 – December 15, birth of son, Ellis Fairbanks, II at East Pascagoula, Jackson Co., Miss.

1824 - Ellis Fairbanks (I) (Mass.) named Justice of the Peace, along with Walter Denny (PA), Charles Holland, John Brewer, Sr. & Wm. C. Seaman of NY.
