Colorado Governor. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1902, earned a degree from the University of Colorado in 1904, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Fort Collins, Colorado. Entering politics, he was the district attorney for the Eighth Judicial District, (1908-14). In 1914, he was elected as Republican the 20th Governor of Colorado, serving until 1917. During his term in office, he advocated the necessity for legislation that endorsed the support of labor and the deterrence of strikes. Also a workman's compensation law was enacted, as well as a prohibition law and the Industrial Relations Commission was created. Being defeated for reelection, he returned to private law practice until his death at 50.
