Dr. Chenery Puffer moved to Shelburne Falls in 1855 when he took over the home and practice of Dr. Tabor. He was the installing officer at the formation of the Alethian Lodge, and in 1862 he was elected to the Legislature in Boston. He married the former Lucy T. Alden who was daughter of the Rev. John Alden of Ashfield and a direct descendant of the John Alden of "Mayflower" fame. Chenery and Lucy had three children. Henry, Samuel and Charles who attended Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.
