Eleanor "Nellie" Gillespie was born to Sara Sarah or Sallie Picketts (9-1844 MY) and Alexander S. Gillespie (abt. 1845 WV). She married Joseph C. Hurst in January 27, 1895 in Dawson, Montana and had two sons. She was widowed in March 1900 and forced to relocate with her two boys to North Sumpter, Oregon to live with her widowed mother.
