Leonard M. "Checkie" Strohecker, 81, of Klingerstown died Mon., July 18, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marlene (Long) Strohecker. The couple would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 22.

Born June 2, 1930, in Klingerstown he was a son of the late William and Hilda (Williams) Strohecker.

He attended the Delps School in Klingerstown. "Dutch", as he was known to his coworkers, retired from Eastern Express Inc. where was employed as a truck driver.

A man of faith, Checkie was a member of Muir Foursquare Gospel Church for 36 years and served as the head usher for 22 years.

He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #764 and a former member of the Klingerstown Fire Company.

He enjoyed hunting and going to camp, and could be found every Friday afternoon leaning on his pole at the Crossroads Auction at Gratz.

However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Surviving is his wife, Marlene; six children and spouses, Connie Clark and her husband Earl of Pillow, Deb Gumpher and her husband Boyd of Harrisburg, Wanda Shadle and her husband Richard of Numidia, Leonard Strohecker Jr. and his wife Sharon of Erdman, Roger Strohecker and his wife Alice of Weishample, and Sheila Jones and her husband Ryan of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dale, Paul, and Raymond Strohecker; one sister, June Kahler; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Rue Strohecker.

A viewing was held Thurs., July 21, 2011, at the Muir Foursquare Church, 111 East Washington St., Tower City, PA 17980 and Friday morning from 9-10 a.m. at the church followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mitch (Pastor Greg Mitchell) officiating.

Interment followed in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.
