United States Supreme Court Justice. Born in Cloverport, Kentucky, he graduated from University of Wisconsin, in 1914, from the University of Colorado Law School, in 1922 and setup a legal service in Boulder, Colorado, (1922-24). He was an associate professor of law, University of Colorado, (1924-26), professor of law, Washington University School of Law, (1926-35), plus professor of law and dean, at State University of Iowa College of Law, (1935-39). He was Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, (1939-43). In 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed him Associate Justice, Supreme Court of the United States and he served until his death at age 55 in York, Maine.
