Castorland - Edward James Turck, 52, Castorland, R.D. 1, died Tuesday at 5 a.m. in the VA Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a patient one week. He had been in ill health since January.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan and at 10 at St. Stephen's Church, Croghan. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday and Friday in the afternoon and evening at the funeral home. The rosary will be recited Friday at 8 p.m.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Hanno Turck; his parents Chester and Pearl Turck, Croghan; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Brenda) Zehr and Joan Turck, Croghan; four sons, Michael, Croghan, Peter, Florida and Gary and Phillip, Castorland; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Rosemarie) Bruce and Mrs. Gerald (Mary Ann) Ritz, Croghan; seven brothers, Bernard, Croghan, Richard, Beaver Falls, Donald, Croghan, R.D., Robert, New Bremen, James, North Dakota, Arthur, Florida, Ralph, Croghan.
Mr. Turck was born at New Bremen May 14, 1921, son of Chester and Pearl Lomber Turck. He was educated in Father Leo School, Croghan and married Margaret Hanno in St. Peter's Church, Lowville, Rev. John Hogan, then pastor, officiating. He had lived in Castorland 18 years after moving from Croghan.
Mr. Turek, a maintenance man for American Machine and Foundary, Lowville, was a World War II veteran. He entered the armed services Aug. 22, 1942 and was discharged Sept. 5. 1945. He served with Co. B, 168th Engineer Battalion and held the following battle stars: Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Church and Beaver River Post 1663, American Legion, Croghan. Watertown Daily Times, Wednesday, November 21, 1973
