He married Christina Turck on April 11, 1893 and she died the next year, following the birth of a son, Joseph, who still survives.

Besides his son, Joseph, and his wife, he is survived by three sons, Clinton, Leon and Duane; four daughters, Mrs. Cyril L'Huillier, of Buffalo; Misses Frances, Anna and Mildred Strife. He is also survived by a half brother, Nicholas Kirschner, of Lowville; three half sisters, Mrs. Mary Woolschlager and Mrs. Barbara Warner,of Lowville, and Mrs. Lena Morse, of Washington, DC.
