The son of Claude and Jessie (Wade) Stevens, Claude Earl Stevens was born on July 10, 1933 in Newton. Earl attended and graduated from Colfax High School. He went on to proudly serve his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. While stationed in Germany he met the love of his life, Martha Seger. The two were united in marriage on October 8, 1955 in Germany. Earl worked for several years at Van Dusseldorp Sand and Gravel in Colfax before spending fifteen years as a saw operator for Vermeer Manufacturing. Earl enjoyed football and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Colfax.
Those left to honor Earl's memory are his wife Martha Stevens of Colfax; four children: Sandy (Jay) Williams of Colfax; Nancy (Bob) Rhone of Mingo; Craig (Peggy) Stevens of Colfax; Rob Stevens (Sheri) of Colfax; eight grandchildren: Nathan Williams, Anya Holdefer, Krystyn Williams, Jeremy Rhone, Gina Teed, Dave Rhone, Jacob Stevens, and Sierra Stevens and ten great-grandchildren. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lola Stier and Colleen Senter, and one brother, Jackie Daly. Obituary provided by Coburn Funeral Homes, Jasper County, Iowa.
