"W. H. Pierce, well known in Devon and Fort Scott, having resided in. Bourbon county for, 36 years, passed away at 12:45 p. m. today at the home of his son Wallace G. Pierce, 215 North Crawford street. He had been critically 111 for several weeks with a complication of diseases. He was taken ill the day of the Centerville picnic which he attended. Mr. Pierce was a very reliable man and engaged In late years in cutting lawns. He enjoyed taking part In the religious services being a member of the Baptist church. He had a good bass voice and was a member of the choir.
He was born in Ohio July 13, 1850, and at his death was aged 74 years, 1 month and 14 days. Mr. Pierce's wife died at Devon, where he farmed, January 12, 1906. Ten years ago he moved to this city.
He is survived by the following children: Wallace G. Pierce, Fort Scott; Mrs. Jennie Kitterman, Wellington, Kans.; Mrs. Minnie Maher, Emporia, Kans.; a step daughter, Mrs. Carrie Turner, Scott City, Kans.; a brother, Andrew Pierce of Zanesville, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Frazier, Gratioto, Ohio; also nine grand children and one great-grand-child. No definite arrangements as to the hour of the funeral have been made but it will be at the First Baptist church. . Burial will be in the Centerville cemetery."
