Willet Elston brought his family and several slaves by boat to Cap au Gris, Missouri an original Fort site founded in 1814 during the War of 1812. He purchased land to the west in that state near Winfield in Lincoln County. He and his family continued to live in Lincoln County and can be found in the 1850, 1860, 1870 Census.
He married his wife Elizabeth 21 September 1837 in Henry County, Kentucky.
