Last rites were conducted Monday over the remains of John Emil Anderson, 97 year old Shafer farmer who succumbed at his home Friday morning at 2:00 coming suddenly from a heart stroke.
Mr. Anderson had suffered a previous stroke last summer but had been in fairly good health. He was found lying on the floor in a helpless condition but remained conscious and talked with his wife until the end. A doctor and a nurse had been previously summoned but to no avail.
Officiating at the services was Pastor Nelson and pallbearers were Ed Carlson, William Carlson, Theodore Gabrielson, Emil Gustafson and Carl Anderson. Interment was made at the church cemetery.
John Emil Anderson was born in Smaland, Sweden, Sept 18, 1878 and came to this country in 1897. He married Miss Sophie Swanson and lived in Minneapolis until 1920 moving from there to the family's present farm near Shafer. Mr. Anderson has operated that place since that time. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Audrey) McClellan, one brother Hjalmer Anderson in Sweden and two half brothers, William Linnell and Alfred Linnell, two nephews, Carl and John Anderson of Minneapolis. Mr. Anderson has been a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church at Center City since 1922. Besides his immediate relatives he leaves a host of friends in the Shafer community.
